May 26, 2015 · Windows 7 has a connection limit of 20 sessions, so unless only half of your computers get used at once your idea of Windows 7 won't work. Either get Windows Server Standard and CALs, or buy/build a *nix based NAS. I wouldn't bother with Windows 7 for your server. Windows 10 would be ok - resource consumption might be a little less on Windows Server. But truthfully, that server is a monster compared to your practical needs and you won't run into resource issues. Also just for perspective, Server 2016 (and Windows 10) come with Hyper-V for virtualization. Jun 15, 2018 · Using Windows 10 as a home server has a few perks. First of all, you might have been eligible for the free upgrade. Even if you weren’t, Windows 10 is far cheaper than legal editions of Windows Server (especially if you buy an OEM version). Besides, Windows 10 is Microsoft’s vision for the future, for better or worse.
